Logansport Utilities taps trenchless relining to revamp aging sewer lines
Logansport Utilities is moving forward with the Eel River Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project, using trenchless relining technology to strengthen portions of the city’s wastewater collection system.
The project is being developed through Indiana’s Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) procurement process. The Lochmueller Group is serving as project engineer and has recommended S&S Directional Boring LTD to complete the work. The company’s proposal is approximately $1.6 million.
The project will focus on rehabilitation of the existing sanitary sewer system near the Eel River and Wabash River confluence area. Planned work includes demolition of the defunct Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Station 15 and relining existing sewer piping with cured-in-place pipe (CIPP), a process that installs a new liner inside the existing sewer pipe without excavating and replacing the entire line.
A significant component of the work will address essential sewer lines associated with the Eel River Avenue interceptor system, including a 30-inch sewer line beneath the Eel River. The project is intended to proactively reinforce aging infrastructure while helping protect the surrounding environment using trenchless rehabilitation technology.
The project is being funded by reserved Indiana State Revolving Fund (SRF) funds originally awarded for the Melbourne Avenue Wastewater Project, completed in 2021. The rehabilitation project reflects Logansport Utilities’ commitment to improving system reliability and protecting the community’s waterways.
